    What is a Phrasal Verb?
Strangely enough, we can see it in a mathematical way!

    Verb + Either preposition/adverb/both = Phrasal Verb
    (Action) (Placement word/Description of Action)

    E.g.

    Look + Up/Down/Over/Under
    (Action) (Prepositions)

These can be directional as in “Look up”, meaning to literally tilt your head or eyes upwards to “looking up” as searching for a term or idea. I’m sure everyone has looked something up in Google, for example!

ngilizce'de en sık kullanılan phrasal verb'lerin kullanımı ve listesi
(Most common phrasal verbs in English)

Phrasal verbs çoğunlukla bir edat ve birden daha fazla sözcük veya sözcük grubunun bir araya gelmesinden oluşan eylemlerdir. Phrasal verbs’ ler çoğu kez dilin güncel kullanımlarından ortaya çıkar ve sık kullanıldığı için zamanla dilin ana yapısını oluşturur. Phrasal verbs hem geçişsiz hem de geçişli fiil olarak kullanılabilir.

    GEÇİŞSİZ FİLLERE ÖRNEK

(The children were sitting around, doing nothing (Çocuklar hiçbir şey yapmıyorlar, öylece oturuyorlardı.)

The witness finally broke down on the stand. (Tanık sonunda durumu değiştirdi)

    GEÇİŞLİ FİİLLERE ÖRNEK

Our boss called off the meeting. (Patronumuz toplantıyı erteledi)

She looked up her old boyfriend. (Eski erkek arkadaşını aradı.)

Bu yapıdaki bir fiil ile birleşmiş kelimeye (çoğu kez bir edat ile) takı denir.
Phrasal verbs ‘ler ile ilgili yaşanan problem, öncelikle anlamlarındaki belirsizliktir ve çoğunlukla P.V’ler birkaç farklı anlamı ifade ederler.

    Örneğin;

To make out: bir şeyin farkına varmak veya görmek, Bu sözcük grubu aynı sevişmek anlamına da gelebilir.

If someone chooses to turn up the street (Eğer biri caddeden yukarı doğru gitmeyi tercih ederse)

Yukarıdaki örnekte kullanılan "Turn up" bir edat ile bir fiilin birleşmesidir ama bir P.V değildir. Yani gerçek anlamında kullanılmışlardır. Ama aşağıdaki örnekte "turn up" phrasal verb olarak kullanılmakta ve tamamen farklı anlamlar vermektedir.

if your neighbors unexpectedly turn up (appear) at a party or your brother turns up his radio,
( Eğer komşularınız beklenmedik bir anda bir partiye gelirse veya erkek kardeşiniz radyonun sesini yükseltirse)

Ayrıca P.V ‘ ü oluşturan fiil, edat veya sözcük grupları her zaman yan yana yazılmazlar.

"Fill this out," (Bunu doldurun) diyebiliriz ya da
"Fill out this form." diyebiliriz.
